Albert Einstein once remarked, "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." This profoundly simple statement is pivotally true. Can you imagine experiencing the entirety of a DP or EFT search and conversion instantaneously? Some things – great things – are greatest when they are understood as the culmination of a series of smaller, significant moments.

DaLand Solutions is a product of time, the result of many interwoven moments and stories of its founders – Dan Micale and Jon Ungerland.

Dan and Jon originally became professional acquaintances while working together at a large financial institution in Denver, Colorado. Dan was serving as Senior Vice President of Operations, and Jon was the Business Analyst overseeing the business process for many of the financial institution business technologies. From their earliest interactions, and throughout the duration of their tenure together at the institution, Dan and Jon began coalescing as creative counterparts. Dan would concoct new and exciting (BIG) ideas, and Jon would provide valuable insight and augmentation – only after interpreting Dan's "crazy talk" and delving into technical manuals and system specifications to determine whether Dan's concoction was, perhaps, too big. Jon grew to appreciate Dan's big ideas, and Dan grew to appreciate Jon's philosophy and penchant for swimming in countless pages of mundane system documentation. Their dynamic and imaginative complement continued.

As it turned out, however, Jon occasionally enjoyed a reprieve from reading instruction manuals. In fact, he had quite often imbibed a philosophy text, or two. Unbeknownst to Dan, Jon had been accepted to Yale as a candidate for a master's degree. When Jon returned from his exploratory trip to New Haven, unsure of whether to pursue further education and set his career aside for the moment, he broke the news to Dan over lunch. Dan's remark was simple and his argument compelling, "You're going to Yale, or I'll fire you."

Consequently, Dan and Jon parted ways in 2007. Dan remained at the Denver based financial institution and Jon put away the system manuals for systematic theology texts.

Though their paths had parted momentarily, their time was not finished. They had separately begun sowing the seeds which would sprout into DaLand Solutions. In 2008 Dan started Micale Consulting, and began assisting credit unions with payment systems, EFT contracts and operations, third party vendor management, and operations/branch support. Simultaneously, Jon launched a private consultancy by the name of ParaCU Consulting, which assisted credit unions with optimization of current business platforms, business technology best practices, and business technology to process/procedure integration.

In 2010, after Jon had returned to Denver, Dan contacted Jon with his latest innovative idea. He had been assisting credit unions with EFT migrations and operations, and many of his clients had asked for assistance with DP processor searches. Dan figured it was time to combine EFT and DP searches, benefitting financial institutions with a unique approach to procuring the entire package. Though there was no technical manual Jon could examine to validate the idea, the partnership seemed like a sound possibility.

Thanks to the cooperation of their initial client – Mark Lau, Denver Fire Department Federal Credit Union- Dan Micale and Jon Ungerland began partnering together to assist financial institutions with DP and EFT solutions, while fostering financial services with a greater goal – remembering Einstein's observation, not all at once, but one client at a time.
